BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

The No. 7-ranked Dewey Bulldoggers saw their historic 2025-26 baseball season come to an end Thursday night, falling 8-2 to No. 2 Washington in the Class 3A state opening game at Norman North High School.

Washington pitcher Owen Andrews proved to be a tough matchup for the high-scoring Bulldoggers, striking out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs. Despite the outcome, Dewey caps off a remarkable 30-10 season, making a deep run to the state's final eight and breaking a 12-year tournament drought. The campaign marks the first 30-win season for four-year head coach Riley Allen, whose squad made a massive leap after finishing 20-15 last year, a season that ended with a regional final loss to Silo.

Originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., the contest didn’t get underway until just after 8 p.m. due to earlier state tournament games running long.

The Bulldoggers struck first in the top of the second inning. Nate Sloan had an infield single and was quickly driven home on an RBI single to left field by Mason Snellgrove. Washington answered immediately in the bottom half of the frame, scoring three runs to push ahead 3-1.

The Warriors expanded their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Jackson Hays. Dewey battled back to score its final run in the top of the fourth. Catcher Jackson Fox launched a double to left field, allowing pinch-runner Austin Eastman to cross the plate on an RBI ground-ball single from Chase Miller.

Offensively, the Bulldoggers showed great discipline at the plate against elite pitching. Fox led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 night, while Sloan finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. Third baseman Parker Garrison and Snellgrove each collected a hit in three at-bats, with Snellgrove driving in a run. Miller also finished 1-for-3 with a crucial RBI to round out the Dewey offense.

On the mound, Dewey displayed depth by utilizing three different pitchers against a potent, top-ranked Warriors offense. Lathe Griggs earned the start, grinding through three tough innings and showing control by issuing only one walk while striking out two and absorbing four earned runs on six hits. Levi Wilson provided a stellar 1.2 innings of relief work, holding Washington to just one hit and one earned run while fanning two batters. Easton Davis closed things out with a hard-fought 1.1 innings on the bump, striking out two of his own while surrendering three earned runs on two hits to keep the Bulldoggers within striking distance.

Washington ultimately retired the Bulldoggers in order with three straight outs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.

With the baseball season wrapped up, Dewey’s high school graduation ceremony will proceed as originally scheduled this Friday at 8:00 p.m.
