BHS football fundraiser could be a hole lot of fun
BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
July 10, 2025
By Mike Tupa
As of this Friday, only seven weeks — 49 days — are all that remain until the Bartlesville High School varsity football opener.
With the return of several veterans from last year’s playoff team, expectations for some happy autumn nights are blossoming.
However, a successful program doesn’t run on dreams, practice, talent and determination alone. It also requires some funding to help the players attend camps, maintain or buy proper equipment, team meals and so on.
To bolster the finances the Bartlesville Quarterback Club (BQC) has scheduled its annual golf fundraiser open to the public for next Monday at Hillcrest Country Club.
Spots are available for both flights, set for shot gun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The format will be a four-man scramble.
Participants can sign up as a four-man team or as individuals.
Other sponsorship opportunities are available, according to Chad Cox, the BQC President.
“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” added Cox.
Much of the money helps Bruin football cover camp expenses, such as the recent one in Bixby for linemen, he explained.
More information is available on the Bartlesville Bruin Football/Quarterback Club facebook page. There is a messaging option available.
The cost to take part in Monday’s tournament is $600 per team or $150 per individual.
Bartlesville — which is led by fourth-year head coach Harry Wright — returns the nucleus of last year’s squad that qualified for the 6A-II playoffs. The team has solid experience in the offensive backfield, on the offensive and defensive lines and at linebacker/secondary.
Wright has led the Bruins to three-straight playoff campaigns, a new Bruin record for football. In the previous two seasons Bartlesville won its first-round postseason game. Last year — with several freshmen and sophomores filling prominent roles — the squad dropped a competitive decision to Putnam City, 26-14, in the opening round.
Here is this year’s prospective schedule:
Bartlesville’s regular season schedule:
— August 29: host Newcastle
— Sept. 5: host Claremore
— Sept. 12: Bye
— Sept. 19: at Collinsville
— Sept. 26: host Sand Springs
— Oct. 3: at Sapulpa
— Oct. 10: host Muskogee
— Oct. 16: at Putnam City North
— Oct. 24: host Ponca City
— Oct. 31: at Putnam City West
— Nov. 7: at Capital Hill
———
Some of the key measuring-stick games could take place include longtime non-district rival Claremore, district nemesis Sand Springs, Sapulpa (who beat Bartlesville in double-overtime last season) and defending state champion Muskogee.
