BARTLESVILLE TRACK HOSTS BRUIN CLASSIC; MICHAEL TAYLOR BREAKS HIS OWN RECORD

BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
Led by a couple of super-charged seniors, the Bartlesville High School boys track team muscled to a high finish in its grueling Bruin Classic last Friday.
Michael Taylor broke his own school record in the 300m hurdles (:39.21) to grab the first-place medal. Taylor also surged to third in the 110m high hurdles (:15.26).
His fellow upperclassmen John Torres displayed plenty of muscle to earn the third-place medal in the shot put (46-0.5).
Fourteen teams crowded into Custer Stadium for the combustible competition. The boys’ field, in order of finish, included: Fremont (162), Collinsville (123.5), Rejoice Christian (91), Claremore (85), Bartlesville (56), Bishop Kelley (53.5), Tulsa Washington (50), Stillwater (47), Sapulpa (43), Ponca City (37), Bixby (28), Dewey (20), Tulsa NOAH (19) and Wesleyan Christian School (1).
On the girls side, Bartlesville came in ninth, led by a powerful performance by senior blazer Evelynn Pratt. She finished second in both the 100m dash (:12.66) and 200m dash (:26.53).
The final order of girls teams included: Bishop Kelley (107), Claremore (94), Collinsville (91), Tulsa Washington (79), Stillwater (78), Fremont (71), Dewey (62), Tulsa NOAH (57), Bartlesville (49), Rejoice Christian (41), Bixby (32), Ponca City (28), Sapulpa (27) and Lincoln Christian (3). Wesleyan Christian School also competed but didn’t place.

BRUINS (boys division)
Other than Taylor and Torres, Bartlesville boasted only two other top-six placers in individual competition.
Junior Preston Shoesmith smoked to fourth place in the 800m run (2:06.69) and also notched a top 10 finish (8th) in the 1600m.
Senior Bryce Lee soared to fourth in the high jump (5-10).
Freshman Payson Winward claimed two top-10 finishes — seventh in the 300m hurdles and 10th in the high jump.
Other top 10 finishers included: Junior Michael Murphy (shot put, 8th), junior Talmage King (3200m, 9th), sophomore Landon Derion (300m hurdles, 9th) and senior Pierson Proctor (110m hurdles, 10th).

LADY BRUINS (girls division)
In addition to Pratt’s double-silver medal effort, a handful of other Lady Bruins placed in the top six.
Sophomore Alayna Nightingale annexed three medals.
She burst to third in the 100m hurdles and fifth each in the 300m hurdles and high jump.
Another promising underclassman named Adilynn Kuntz, a freshman, sprinted to fourth in the 400m.
Sophomore Eliza Miller registered a top 10 finish (10th) in the 800m.
