BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

The worst-kept secret in Oklahoma high school track is the status of a Bartlesville High School spring-legged sophomore as the best prep pole vaulter in the state.

Following Wesley Turner’s soaring performance at last weekend’s Kansas Relays regional competition in Lawrence, Kan., word is spreading.

Turner flew over the bar at 16-feet-plus to finish second out of a field of the elite human launchpads across the fruited plains. He didn’t quite match his career best (16-feet-three, set earlier this month) but he was the lone sophomore among the top 15. Turner also joined only two other competitors in clearing 16 feet.

In addition, Bartlesville also placed senior Logan Young in the top 15. Young cleared the bar at 14-feet-2 — a new career high — to finish 15th.

Bartlesville was the lone school with two pole vaulters finishing in the top 15.

In other track competition last weekend, Bartlesville made a distinct impact at the Booker T. Washington meet.

Kadance Barnett flirted with the 19-foot mark in the girls long jump before settling at 18-feet-9.5-inches to win first place. Barnett also burst to second place in the girls 100m dash (:12.14).

In the girls’ pole vault Bartlesville powered to the top four spots — Hailey Taylor (9-9), Emerson Casey (9-0), Parker Fielder (9-0) and Raylee Reeder (8-0).

Russell Miller set a blistering pace to finish second in the boys 3200m run (10:10.6) for the highest finish by a Bartlesville male.

Michael Taylor high-stepped to third place in the boys 110m hurdles (:16.15) and Fielder nailed down third place in the girls 100m hurdles (:16.94).
