BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Following are updates of how area high school graduates have fared in recent college action.

(Note: this article was written on Jan. 25, so some stats may be out of date.)

CHEYAN McDANIEL-DEATHERAGE (Dewey)

Rogers State (Women’s basketball)

McDaniel-Deatherage has appeared in all 19 games (four starts) and averaged 15.2 minutes.

She is contributing 4.2 points and more than three rebounds per game.

She’s also given out 21 assists and blocked 11 shots.

DAVID CASTILLO (Bartlesville)

Kansas State men’s basketball

Bartlesville High School’s all-time leading boys’ basketball scorer pumped in a career-high 20 points to help lead the KSU Wildcats to their first Big 12 win.

Castillo downed 7-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore guard followed up with a solid showing in a loss to Kansas. He played 38 minutes, dialed in eight points, including two three-pointers, and handed out an assist.

For the season, Castillo is hitting nearly 40 percent on three-pointers (40-of-102), hitting nearly 80 percent of his free throws (26-of-33) and averaging about 11.5 points per game. He also has handed out 41 assists.

Castillo has appeared in all 20 games, including three starters.

Castillo played three seasons at Bartlesville High (2020-23) before transferring his senior season (2023-24) to Sunrise Christian Academy (Wichita, Kan.).

While at Bartlesville he became the Bruins’ all-time leading career starter while averaging around 25 points a game all three seasons.

He played several minutes in reserve, and a couple of starts, for K-State as a rookie in 2024-25. He was the lone freshman on the roster.

The former Lady Bruin teammates are working hard to propel the Lady Braves to success.

Duncan is averaging 18 minutes and 7.7 points per game. She has appeared in all 20 contests, including eight starts.

McPhail is contributing nearly two points a game in a relief role.

ADDISON WILLIAMS (Bartlesville)

William Jewell (Mo.) (Women’s swimming)

Williams burst to second place in the 200 backstroke (2:42.49) at the Saint Mary dual. William Jewell won the women’s competition, 139-56.

EASTON MALONE (Barnsdall)

Cowley County (Kan.) (Wrestling)

Malone has seen plenty of action in January but appears to be battling through freshman challenges.

He’s been wrestling at 285 pounds.

AIDAN HOWZE (Bartlesville)

Howze helped lift Kansas to its first win in six years against Arkansas.

Howze surged to fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.09) to contribute to the point total.

Howze finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke at the prestigious Showcase of the West in early January. She turned in Kansas’ second-fastest time.

She also came in 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke, again as the second-highest Kansas finisher.

JORDAN CARTER (Bartlesville)

Manhattan Christian (Men’s basketball)

Carter continues to be a solid contributor to the Thunder.

He’s averaging 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds while playing in all 19 games (five starts).

He’s also handed out 83 assists and made 21 steals.

In a 96-57 victory against Union Adventist, he dropped in 10 points, grabbed five boards and handed out four assists.

During an 80-64 win against Calvary Bible, he contributed 11 points, three assists and two offensive rebounds.

Former Bartlesville High School’s Kylee Greene is finding success in gymnastics at the Air Force Academy.

Air Force Academy (Women’s gymnastics)

Greene powered to a season-best 9.8 on the balance beam to help the academy win first place at a home quad last weekend.

She also scored 9.8 on the apparatus and finished with 39.0 All-Around points.

For the season, Greene owns the third-highest vault score (9.85) of the season, third-best balance beam score (9.875) and fourth-highest floor exercise score (9.825).

Greene trained and competed with the Phillips 66 Gymnastics Club, now known as the Bartlesville Gymnastics Club.
