RANDOM OBSERVATIONS:
BARTLESVILLE BOYS’ BASKETBALL: The Bruins will be looking to open the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2016-17 season. The Bruins haven’t won back-to-back games, period, since the 2022-23 campaign. … Broken Arrow should provide a significant test for the young and rebuilding Bruins.
OKWU MEN’S SOCCER: The Eagles are trying to dance into the national final for the first time since the 2020-21 school year.
BARTLESVILLE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Bartlesville will be focused on a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2018-19 season. … Head coach Justyn Shaw has recorded his 40th career varsity win.
OKWU WRESTLING: The Eagles definitely have an area flavor with Carter Manley (197, Bartlesville), Easton Olenberger (174, Bartlesville), Jake Stanton (125, Caney, Kan.) and Bryan Cosby (114, Pawhuska). In the season opener earlier this month, OKWU pounded Bethany (Kan.), 44-12. Manley posted a victory by technical fall at 197, and Olenberger won a major decision at 174. Other OKWU winners — some by forfeit — were Daniel Glenn (125), Zeke Wheeler (133), Ryan Dement (141), Dregen Murray (149), Blake Velotta (157), and Peyton Callis (184).
POTENTIAL BEST PREP HOOP GAMES OF THE WEEK: Boys: Dewey vs. Chelsea, Girls: Dewey vs. Chelsea, Boys: Nowata vs. Caney Valley, Girls: Caney Valley vs. Dewey. Boys and girls: Copan vs. South Coffeyville. … The Dewey and Caney Valley girls could feature an interesting storyline with Caney Valley player Presley Smith going against her former Dewey teammates.
