BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Bartlesville High School wrestling showcased the growing strength of its program last Saturday night, hosting the Moonlight Mayhem outdoor folkstyle tournament at Unity Square in downtown Bartlesville.

The event drew 402 registrations across 14 divisions and 99 weight classes, bringing wrestlers from seven states to downtown Bartlesville. An estimated 1,200 to 1,500 people attended the outdoor matches, which included 42 adult entries.

Bartlesville Wrestling captured the team title, finishing first overall with 312 points from 51 competing wrestlers.

WolfPak Wrestling finished second with 112 points, edging past Caney Valley Wrestling, which also scored 112 points but brought 24 wrestlers to WolfPak's 13. Barnsdall Wrestling placed fourth with 81.5 points.

"It was a great event that showcased how a group of wrestling fans working with our newly formed booster club can put together a spectacular wrestling tournament," Bartlesville wrestling coach Bryan Vashus said. "The pieces have been in place here in Bartlesville to do some great things. This is the result of those pieces starting to come together and work with one another."

Vashus did more than just help organize the event; he also suited up to compete, securing a third-place finish for Bartlesville in the Masters 19-over, 180-pound division.

Vashus credits the newly formed Bartlesville Takedown Club and a host of volunteers for the event.
