The Bartlesville Bruins took care of business on the road Friday night, dominant in all phases during a 52-7 victory over Enid.
The win moves the Bruins to 3-1 this season under new head coach Matt Hennesy, building serious momentum before heading into an off-week.
"I was very proud of our team for how hard they played," Hennesy said. "I am equally proud of our staff for how hard they have worked to make sure our team is ready."
Bartlesville wasted no time establishing control, exploding for 16 points in the first quarter and adding 20 more in the second to carry a commanding 36-7 lead into halftime. The Bruins' defense completely shut the door in the second half, holding Enid scoreless.
Quarterback Michael Kent commanded the air attack, completing 17 of 21 passes for 232 yards. Kent was also lethal on the ground, rushing for 29 yards on four carries and punching in two rushing touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Ethan Espe also saw late-game action, completing one pass for 6 yards.
Kent’s favorite target of the night was Matthew Sears, who turned four receptions into 41 yards and three touchdowns. Price Lusk led the team in all-purpose yardage with 110 yards, including four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. EJ Belisle added four receptions for 65 yards, while Boden Roberts tallied three catches for 49 yards to round out a balanced receiving corps that averaged 13.9 yards per catch.
On the ground, the Bruins' rushing attack combined for 140 yards on 26 carries, averaging a hefty 5.4 yards per attempt. Logan Goins led the ground game with 49 yards on six carries, closely followed by Wyatt Mathis, who rushed eight times for 48 yards and one touchdown.
Kicker Maci Alleman kept pressure on Enid all night, booming seven kickoffs for 254 yards, averaging 36.3 yards per kick with a game-long of 46 yards.
Defensively, Bartlesville swarmed the Enid offense. Drake Ford and Landen Shawn anchored the unit, spearheading the defense to record 11 tackles each. Roberts, Belisle, Christian Keitku, and Eman George suffocated Enid's plays in space with nine tackles apiece.
The Bruins' pass rush kept the pocket collapsing all night. Davin Carter and Sonji Keitku each recorded seven tackles and a sack, while Adrian Jones added six tackles and assisted on another sack. Keitku also came up with a fumble recovery to cap off his big defensive night.
With a week off to recuperate, the Bruins will look ahead to a massive home matchup against undefeated Yukon (4-0) on Oct. 2 for Bartlesville's homecoming game at Custer Stadium.
"The bye week is coming at a good time as we need some rest and recovery time," Hennesy said. "We have one more non-district game with a very good 6A-1 Yukon team coming to town for our homecoming. Then we will start competition in our loaded district."
