The Dewey Bulldoggers held a four-team scrimmage last Friday. The Bulldoggers defeated Nowata 28-0 in a half-game scrimmage. Hominy and Rejoice Christian also played a half-game before the Bulldoggers and Ironmen took the field.

The scrimmage provided a first look at the Nowata Ironmen, who will open their regular season Friday at Warner under first-year head coach Scott Martin.

A “Meet the Doggers” event was held last Thursday, allowing fans to meet the varsity, junior varsity and youth football teams, along with cheerleaders and band members.

Dewey, under second-year coach Scott Sapulpa, kicks off the season at 7 p.m. Thursday in Vinita. The Bulldoggers went 4-6 last season and 3-4 in district play, finishing just one win away from the Class 2A-I playoffs. Vinita won only one game last season, finishing 1-9 with a victory over Cleveland.

Due to the OSSAA's bi-annual redistricting cycle, the Bulldoggers are moving to Class 2A-I, District 1 this season. The new alignment features a fresh slate of district foes, including Crooked Oak, Blackwell, Kiefer, Chisholm, Perry, Bethel and Cascia Hall. Non-district opponents include Vinita, Newkirk and Chouteau-Mazie.

You can catch Thursday’s game on Bartlesville Radio’s KRIG 104.9 and KRIGTV.com. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
