It's hard to say if Dewey High School senior Cameron “CJ” Jones gets much rest, as she’s always “jumping around”. And yes, the cheesy cliché is intentional. After taking jump shots, layups and grabbing rebounds tonight at the Dewey Class 3A basketball districts, Jones will hop into a car and head for the 2026 Oklahoma Cross Country and Track Coaches Association’s Indoor High School State Championships on Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
The event marks the first-ever indoor event for Oklahoma high schools and brings together high school athletes from across the state. Jones qualified for the event on Jan. 31, 2025, placing first in the high jump in all divisions and second in the long jump, also in all divisions. And speaking of “jumping” again, Jones had played in the Dewey homecoming basketball game, as well as being a part of the homecoming court, the night before traveling to Norman for January qualifications.
Jones already holds records in track and a 5’8” high jump, and really wants to break that record, said Becky Lee, Jones' mother.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” said Dewey cross country coach Lance Knight, “CJ can set records and represent our school well.”
Jones has committed to Pitt State University, according to Lee, on a track scholarship. She’s also a member of the USA Track and Field.
“She’s really excited to finish out her last high school season with an impact that influences her younger classmates to go for whatever they want,” Lee said.
