BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

During his nearly 30 years of covering area high school sports for either the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise or the Bartlesville Area Sports Report, Mike Tupa has enjoyed the opportunity to observe some incredible athletes.

This is an ongoing series highlighting, each few days, one of those athletes from the 1996-97 school year through the present. The list is not in chronological order. The athletes are presented in random sequence.

Today's Spotlight

ALLISON HUNT (Copan)

Multiple sports (early-to-mid 2010s)

Allison Hunt honed herself into a human rocket trying to break through the ceiling of gravity.

Like legendary coach Vince Lombardi said, when one chases perfection they can catch excellence. That applied o Hunt, who skyrocketed to legendary height, placing in the top six all four years at the state track meet — including two state championships.

As a junior (2015) she cleared the bar at nine-feet-even to harvest the gold.

A year later, she made a foot higher (10-0) and as a senior ruled the state again.

Hunt went on to compete for Emporia (Kan.) State University.

During her first two years (2018-20) at Emporia she flew to her career indoor best height (10-foot-4)

During the 2019-20 indoor season she flew to second place (9-2.25) in the women’s pole vault at the Wichita State Shocker Prelude.

Hunt would clear 10-2 for her best outdoors’ mark for Emporia.

Hunt also excelled in volleyball for Copan. In a sweep in 2015 of Wesleyan Christian, Hunt’s cross-court kill and later timely set fueled the second-set win, 25-9.

In the final set, Hunt served Copan to a 22-9 lead.

In a titanic win against Oologah, 25-27, 25-20, 25-9, 25-15, Hunt unleashed five service points.

As a girl, Hunt also competed in gymnastics. In TAG competition back in 2008 she competed at Level 3.

When it comes to being one of the best area athletes the past quarter-century Hunt is right up there.
