Area baseball teams prepare for playoffs, while others wrap up their seasons

BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
The following is a report on upcoming area baseball regionals and teams who have wrapped up their seasons:
OKLAHOMA UNION
Oklahoma Union is hosting Class 2AII regionals on Thursday. The Cougars (16-10) take on Minco (8-14) at 11 a.m. The regional field also includes Hooker (8-6) and Hulbert (16-7). The championship game will be played on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The Cougars started the season with an 11-2 record at the end of March, and their regular season finale was a win over Wyandotte on the road last Friday. Jacob Harris and Bodee West both hit home runs in the 7-2 victory. Two games earlier in the week were rained out. Oklahoma Union's coach is Aaron Funkhouser.

NOWATA
The Nowata Ironmen make a short trip to Ketchum for Class 2AII regionals.
They take on host Ketchum at 11 a.m. Also in the regional field are Fairview and Morrison. The championship game is set for 6:30 p.m Friday. Nowata is coached by Tanner Robb.

CANEY VALLEY
Caney Valley (5-9) meets host Dale in the Class 2AI regional tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m. The Trojans will also have to get past Coalgate (11-14) and Rejoice Christian (16-15) to move on.
The Trojans are coming off of three straight losses and a couple of rainouts.

PAWHUSKA
Pawhuska (8-13) travels to Panama for regionals, where the Huskies meet the hosts at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Other teams in the tournament are Luther and Howe.
The Huskies defeated Caney Valley 12-2 at the end of April but fell to Rejoice Christian in their final regular season game, 10-1. Pawhuska's coach is Mike Stroud. The Huskies are graduating three seniors: Lane Kyler, Will Sweeden, and Canyon Hindman.

The Barnsdall Panthers won the Super 6 Conference at Copan in April. The Panther’s season came to an end at regionals with a 23-10 record.

BARNSDALL
The 11th-ranked Barnsdall Panthers (23-10) were just one win away from going into further postseason play, but lost to 6th-ranked Arapaho-Butler in the second game last Friday.
The Panthers opened regional play with an 11-0 win over Wayne. They then defeated Arapaho-Butler 11-7, but couldn’t get a second win, losing 4-0.
Earlier in April, Barnsdall won the Super 6 Conference in Copan defeating Foyil and host Copan.
During the regular season, Barnsdall was 5-2 against Class 2A teams and 9-3 against Class B teams. They shut out Class 5 Memorial, 15-0, in the Barnsdall tournament in March.
The Panthers graduate six players, including Braden Byers, Bodie Clark, Maverick Lanphear, Easton Malone, Mark Myers, and Brohk Townley.

DEWEY
The Dewey Bulldoggers (20-15) season ended last Friday in regional action. Dewey won the first regional game against Kansas, 2-1, but then fell twice to Silo (26-5), 10-0 and 9-1.
Dewey started strong at the beginning of the season, winning four in a row, going 12-6 in March and 7-7 in April's regular season.
The Bulldoggers, coached by Riley Allen, graduate two seniors - Cooper Wood and Braden Ringer.

COPAN
Baseball season also ended for the Copan Hornets with two losses in the Class B regional tournament in Hammon last week. Prior to regionals, the Hornets won three games in district play, defeating South Coffeyville 13-1 and downing Frontier twice, 23-15 and 8-0.
In regional playoff action, Copan defeated No. 20 New Lima 17-5. They then fell to Hammon 12-1 in the first round and lost a close one, 8-6, in the final game against Varnum. The Hornets (18-11) are led by Coach Daniel Wren.
