BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Like lightning chasing thunder, the Dewey High School track team is hot on the heels of explosive glory this season.

How hot?

Withering.

During their home meet this week, the Dewey Doggers scorched the field in the boys’ competition to win first place. In the girls’ battles, a much-larger school in Mannford edged Dewey for the title.

Meanwhile, other area teams — Pawhuska, Caney Valley, Nowata and Barnsdall — showed up with some strong relay or individual performances as well.

Following is breakdown of how the local squads fared, including a list of all the medalists.

DEWEY BOYS

The Doggers surged to six championships, six runner-up finishes and three bronze-quality finishes.

Keidon Holt and Kavery Weathers led the charge.

Holt swooped to the 110m high hurdles title (:14.94) and came in second, by an eye-blink, in the 300m hurdles.

Weathers burned almost all his opposition. He rocketed to the 300m hurdles title (:40.04), grabbed second in the 110m high hurdles and soared to fourth in the high jump.

Dewey also dashed to the 4x400m relay championship (3:34.64). The members of the relay team weren’t listed on the official results.

Other Doggers that came up golden included Caydn Artherton (400m, :53.34), Ryan Frisinger (3200m, 11:15.64) and Scott Horton (1600m, 5:01.04).

Other championship runner-ups included: Steven Rippy (discus), Tra Hicks (400m) and the 4x200m relay team.

DEWEY GIRLS

No one turned in a day to rival senior C.J. Jones — three individual championships (300m hurdles, :47.34; high jump, 5-4; and long jump, 16-8.5).

Londyn Bond boasted Dewey’s other top finish (shot put, 39-7).

Kyla Overton racked up two second-place showings (shot put, discus).

Dewey’s 4x400m relay team also came in second, but the squad members were not available.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

First names weren’t available for some of the area athletes.

For the Pawhuska girls, Brooklyn Miles dashed to the 400m title (1:01.34).

Nowata’s Asiah Saxton hustled to third in the boys 100m and Barnsdall’s Abri Gott muscled out third in the girls shot put.

Caney Valley’s Edwards came in third in the girls’ pole vault and Paycen Kelly flew to third in the boys long jump.
