AREA TRACK REPORT: DEWEY AND WCS COMPETE AT BARTLESVILLE MEET

BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
There’s no doubt Dewey High School head coach Dan Close has put together a mighty girls track team this spring.
During a grueling Bartlesville Bruin Classic last Friday, Dewey finished seventh out of 14 teams in a girls division that included numerous Class 6A and 5A schools.
The Dewey boys didn’t fare as well collectively but still boasted some outstanding individual performances.
Wesleyan Christian School also competed in the heavy-handed field and boasted some highlights.
Following is a closer look, followed by top 30 finishes for the Dewey and WCS teams.

DEWEY GIRLS
Once again, C.J. Jones led the surge.
The senior dynamo won the high jump (5-4) and burst to second in 300m hurdles (:47.99). She also landed sixth in the long jump (15-11).
Senior Chanley Herren also hustled to two top-five finishes — third in the 300m hurdles (:52.51) and fifth in the 100m hurdles (:17.23).
Senior Kyla Overton brought home two top-five medals as well — shot put (4th, 36-5) and discus (5th, 103-9).
Other Lady Doggers with top-six showings included: Senior Lacey Nichols (discus, 4th), and senior Eden McKinney (100m hurdles, 6th).
Rounding out Dewey’s top-10 placers were: Freshman Marcella Willard (100m hurdles, 7th), sophomore Sadye Guilfoyle (300m hurdles, 8th), freshman Anna Compton (800m, 8th), and freshman Adrianna Hicks (high jump, 9th).

DEWEY BOYS
Senior Keidon Holt bolted to the 110m hurdles title (:14.63) and also placed sixth in the 300m hurdles (:43.77) to lead the Dogger charge.
Kavery Weathers also earned a spotlight. The sophomore romped to fifth in the 300m hurdles (:43.25) and eighth in the 110m hurdles (:16.57).
Two other Dewey seniors earned top-10 finishes — Scott Horton (800m, 7th) and Tra Hicks (400m, 9th).

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN
The school entered a small but determined contingent.
Senior Kaden Week turned in the best showing, coming in eighth in the boys’ 100m dash (:11.3).
He also placed 12th in the 200m dash as did sophomore Draevyn Grahlert in the long jump.
Karsyn White recorded the girls’ best placing, coming in 18th in the 300m hurdles.
