Sometimes the eye is mightier than the sword.

Cooper Swaim carried his club of destruction to the plate Monday afternoon and didn’t need to use it,

Instead, the Bartlesville High School stalwart earned a bases-loaded walk to power the Bruins past Tulsa Union, 4-3,  to their 18th season win and snap a rare three-game losing streak.

The Bruins were scheduled to play Tuesday in Tulsa Union, but Mother Nature had other plans. The Class 6A postseason is set to open up next week. Bartlesville is vying for its fourth 20- win season in five years.

Cody Price is nearing the end of his sixth year as the Bruin leader, albeit the team played only eight games in 2020 due to the statewide virus lockdown.

Bartlesville needed some come-from-behind magic against Tulsa Union. The visiting squad scored two runs on one play in the seventh inning to go ahead, 3-2. Up to that point, Bruin pitcher Kaden Romesburg had sailed along, Price said.

But the Bruins took advantage of some last-inning walks to set up their rainy-day victory.
