BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
Perfection is, at best, an elusive hope in the fickle repartee of competitive sports.
But Bartlesville High School tennis teams turned perfection into a stark reality — of sorts — during a hammering sweep earlier this week against Ponca City.
Bartlesville won both the boys and girls competitions by a flawless 4-0 result each on what was Bartlesville’s first-ever tennis Senior Night event.
On the girls side, Bartlesville’s Abby Shelley stormed through singles play at 2-0 and won the title by default.
Sophie Kelly saw double duty, finishing 1-1 in singles and teamed up with Kayleigh Khan to win a doubles match.
Doubles team Claire Auschwitz and Ava Kate Craig rolled to a 2-1 record, including a near-upset of unbeaten Bishop Kelley.
Khan and Dani Rodriguez combined for two doubles matches, finishing 1-1.
Ava Dennis won her match in singles competition.
For the boys, Nick Du fashioned a 2-1 record in singles play.
Elijah Burchett won his only singles’ match and Hunter Breslin finished 1-1 in singles.
The doubles duo of Carson Covington and Johnny Colmenero finished 2-1, including a three-set loss.
Rylan Green and Karsten Proctor were untouchable in doubles play, finishing 3-0.
As far as round robin scoring, Bartlesville triumphed 9-3 in both the girls’ and boys’ competition.
In team scoring Bartlesville finished unbeaten.

Tennis, anyone?
Certainly for the Bartlesville High School netters.
Returning key components from last year’s outstanding season, the Bruins and Lady Bruins have already hit the court in competition this campaign.
At the Ponca City meet, stellar returnee and state championship contender Abby Shelley captured the girls’ No. 1 singles championship. She dropped only one game.
The Lady Bruins reloaded at No. 2 singles with freshman Sophie Kelly, who finished fourth at Ponca City and is off to a good start, Bartlesville coach Bryan Reese said.
The veteran girls’ doubles team of Claire Auschwitz and Ava Kate Craig grabbed second at No. 1 doubles.
Kayleigh Khan and Dani Rodriguez combined for No. 2 doubles at Ponca City and placed fourth.
In the Owasso competition, Khan came in fourth at No. 1 singles, Rodriguez racked up fourth at No. 2 singles, Auschwitz and Craig won it all at No. 1 doubles.
On the boys’ side, Bartlesville finished fifth as a team at Ponca City.
Jack Ihrig filled the No. 1 singles spot but suffered an injury. Nick Du came in fifth at No. 2 singles. Carson Covington and Johnny Colmenero joined up to finish fourth at No. 1 doubles, and Rylan Green and Karsten Proctor hustled to fourth at No. 2 doubles.
Ihrig, Du, Green, and Karsten are new varsity players. Colmenero and Covington provide the most varsity experience to the mix.
At Owasso, Colmenero came in fourth at No. 1 singles, Proctor landed in fifth at No. 2 singles, Covington and Green clawed out fifth place at No. 1 doubles, and Du and Cade Serratos nailed down seventh at No. 2 doubles.
