BARTLESVILLE BRUINS

While most students were on spring break, several baseball teams were hitting the diamond last week.

Bartlesville spent the break in the Gulf Coast Classic Baseball Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama, coming home with one win. The Bruins defeated East Robertson 9-1 last Tuesday after falling to Madison Academy 15-5. The Bruins dropped two more games in the tournament. 

Before the tournament, the Bruins were 3-4 on the season, defeating Skiatook and Pryor and shutting out Rejoice Christian 5-0. 

The Bruins bring back three key seniors, including Barrett Merciez, Sam Marcella, and Carson Silva. Sam Hill, a transfer from Oklahoma Union, has signed to play for Allen Community College.

The Bruins, coached by Cody Price, face Tulsa Union (1-10) in a back-to-back series, starting on the road Monday and returning home Tuesday

BARTLESVILLE LADY BRUINS

The Lady Bruins slow-pitch softball team is 3-3 on the season, which began March 5 with an 11-7 home win over Jenks. Bartlesville then dropped three games before defeating Poteau 14-2 and Tahlequah 21-2. 

The Lady Bruins will be on the road starting Monday at Tulsa Union and Broken Arrow on Tuesday. On Thursday, Bartlesville faces Moore and Sand Springs at the Broken Arrow Festival.

Bartlesville returns veterans Lola Reddington, Kelsie Yales, and Savannah Alden. Yales recently signed with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The Lady Bruins are coached by Kyle Minton.

BARNSDALL PANTHERS

The Barnsdall Panthers (7-8) began the season with four wins, scoring 51 runs while giving up only two. On March 9, they won a one-run thriller at Caney Valley, 13-12.

Over spring break, the Panthers played in the Ripley Tournament, losing two games and defeating the Ripley JV 18-5. 

Ryan Gott, who coaches the Panthers, has several veterans returning including Maverick Lanphear, Bryce Byers, Bodie Clark, James Johnson, Tripp Barbee and Andrew Cole. 

Next up, Barnsdall hits the road Monday for Tonkawa and Hominy on Tuesday. The Barnsdall Festival begins on Thursday.

CANEY VALLEY TROJANS

The Trojans (4-6) played in the Wyandotte Tournament over spring break, dropping three games. 

Prior to the tournament, Caney Valley defeated Barnsdall and Will Rogers. They opened their season March 3 with a 13-2 win over Oklahoma Union and lost a close one to Barnsdall 13-12 on March 9. 

The Trojans, coached by Andy Fox, bring back versatile players Bryor Bonde, Logan Thompson, Preston Gipson, Elijah Davis, and A.J. Cornelius. 

Next up, Caney Valley travels to Copan on Monday.

COPAN HORNETS

The Hornets (6-4), coached by Daniel Wren, are ranked No. 16 in Class A-II. 

Bluejacket defeated Copan in their season opener, 8-3, March 3. Following that slight hiccup, the Hornets went on a six-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 86-11. 

Junior pitcher and catcher Zane Stricklin has a 0.00 ERA on the mound and has nine stolen bases. Other key players include Peyton Call, Zander Street, Shooter Brewington, Zane Agnew, and Jonah Hong. 

Next up, the Hornets host Washington County rival Caney Valley on Monday. On Thursday, they begin play in the Nowata Ironman Classic.

DEWEY BULLDOGGERS

The Bulldoggers (11-3) played in the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama, over spring break, winning one of three games. They defeated fellow Oklahoma team Atoka 12-8. 

Dewey, coached by Riley Allen, started strong with 10 straight wins — including the Sperry Tournament championship — before losing to Battle Ground, Tenn., at the Gulf Coast tourney. 

The Bulldoggers roster several seniors, including Nate Sloan, Easton Davis, Layne Gastel, Parker Garrison, and Lathe Griggs. 

Next up, Dewey hosts Metro Christian on Monday before heading for the rematch Tuesday. They’ll start the Adair Tournament on Thursday.

NOWATA IRONMEN

The Ironmen (1-6) host their annual Nowata Ironman Classic starting Thursday.
