BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
Following is a roundup of recent Bartlesville High School sports action.
__________
BASEBALL
Twenty games, thirteen wins.
That’s the definition of a successful season start.
Meet the Bruin diamond busters.
Paced by a boiling 11-hit offensive attack — which even sputtering rains couldn’t cool — Bartlesville scorched Booker T. Washington, 7-2, during a Thursday Senior Night showdown on Rigdon Field at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.
The Bruins improved to 13-7 — matching their win total for all of last season.
Thursday’s victory might have been Bartlesville’s most complete effort of the season — powerful pitching, nearly flawless fielding, high octane offense that produced 11 hits.
“Nearly everyone got a hit,” said veteran Bruin skipper Cody Price. “It was a good night. We were worried about the rain, but it held off. It was a really good night.”
It was also Bartlesville’s fifth victory in a row — the longest winning streak during the Price Era, which began in 2020.
The six seniors played a major role in the historic win.
Each of them — Kaden Romesburg, Damien Niko, Jaxon Zaun, Hunter Shea, Grant Foote and Justin Swart — each contributed a base hit.
Shea also pitched the distance, carrying a shutout into the seventh inning with Zaun as his catcher.
Niko, Shea and Cooper Swaim each contributed a double.
Bartlesville High School’s Sam Marcella (12) slides into second base in home action against Booker T. Washington last Thursday. The Bruins (13-7) won 7-2.

After scoring an early run, Bartlesville began to pull away in the fourth inning, sparked by Zaun’s leadoff single. The Bruins went on to score two runs in the frame.
After Zaun reached first, Niko drew a walk and Marcella put down a bunt single to load the bases. Swaim then poked into a fielder’s choice to drive home the inning’s first run. Moments later, Shea delivered a safety squeeze to plate Niko and increase Bartlesville’s lead to 3-0.
The Bruins tacked on four more runs in the fifth inning, which started out with a bunt base hit by Romesburg, who eventually would score on a passed ball. Niko walked and scored on Marcella’s sacrifice fly. Swaim and Shea both doubled to lead to the last two runs, once of them driven home by Carson Silva.
In addition to strong pitching and hitting, the Bruin defense committed just one error.
“This was a good win,” Price repeated. “We swung it well.”
Next up, the Bruins play at home Monday against Muskogee (6 p.m.) and travel Tuesday to Muskogee.
