BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Bartlesville High School cache of success included three medals from this past weekend’s Class 6A state track meet at Western Heights High School.

Sophomore Wesley Turner grabbed a silver medal in the boys high jump (15-6) to top the Bruins, who are coached by David Ayres.

In the 800m meters, Bartlesville’s strong-legged Russell Miller galloped to fifth place (1:55.56) to close out his high school career with a medal.

And Michael Murphy III hurled the platter 153-feet-2-inches to place fifth in the boys discus.

Bartlesville might have cashed in on a lot more precious medal if not for an injury in the regional to Kadance Barnett. Barnett was a contender for first place in both the high jump and long jump, a strong candidate for a top-three medal in one of the sprints and likely would have propelled Bartlesville’s girls 4x100m relay team into state.

But, as they say, it was what it was.

The Bartlesville thinclads went and gave it their best and brought home some hardware — and for some valuable experience — to show for it.
