BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

To use a baseball term, Owen May proved to be a tough out at the Class 6A boys high school state tennis tournament.

Competing at No. 1 singles for Bartlesville, May recovered from a tough first day to win all three matches on Saturday and finish as the consolation champion.

He might have been eliminated on Friday but fought off multiple match points, said Bartlesville head coach Bryan Reese.

May recorded a 16-5 record for the season.

At No. 1 doubles, Johnny Colmenero and Carson Covington placed ninth at state to round out their campaign mark at 14-6.

Mark Shaw and Bash White also placed ninth at No. 2 doubles and checked out of the season at 10-8.
