BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
Kadance Barnett bolted to a pair of championships to help spearhead Bartlesville’s quest for excellence at Tahlequah's meet.
The senior speedster flashed to first place in the girls 100m dash (:12.49) and flew to the top spot in the long jump (17-10). She also challenged for first in the girls high jump before settling for second place (5-6).
Bartlesville claimed a handful of other gold medal-quality performances.
Fleet of flight Parker Fielder cleared the bar at 9-6 — a season best — to rule in the girls pole vault.
On the boys side, cannon-arm Michael Murphy III twirled the discus 156-5 to earn the championship — for the second-straight meet.
Strong-lunged senior Russell Miller surged to first in the 3200m run (10:10.84).
Cameron Bishop earned special attention by placing second in two events — the high jump (6-4) and the long jump (19-8.5).
His progress in the high jump was amazing — his previous high jump best in competition had been 5-10!
Coach David Ayres’ squad also grabbed several second places, other than those mentioned above, and third-places.
Following is grouping of these.
SECOND PLACE BOYS: Cooper Middlebusher, discus (135-11).
SECOND PLACE GIRLS: Parker Fielder, 100m hurdles (:16.81); Hailey Taylor, pole vault (9-0).
THIRD PLACE BOYS: Cooper Middlebusher, shot put (43-10.5), Michael Taylor, 110m hurdles (:16.54).
THIRD PLACE GIRLS: 4x100m relay team (:50.79, Brooke Baker, Reagan Barnes, Evelynn Pratt, Sofia Varela); Emerson Casey, pole vault (8-6).
Following are some other highlights:
— Barnes ran the girls 200m dash in less than 29 seconds (:28.79) for the first time.
— Taylor broke the 17-second barrier in the girls 100m hurdles (:16.5).
