BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Following are summaries of area basketball games from last Friday and this week:

Boys: Dewey 79, Nowata 58

The Dewey Bulldoggers (20-2), coached by Lance Knight, clinched the Northeast Valley Conference championship with an 8-0 record Tuesday at Nowata (11-10), defeating the Ironmen 79-58. The Bulldoggers are on a roll, with a 10-game winning streak going back to their loss to Oologah in January. 

Nowata kept close in the first quarter, down by only three, but Dewey found their offense in the second and third quarters, scoring 24 points in both quarters. Going into the fourth, Dewey led 60-41. The Bulldoggers were able to play some reserves in the last minutes of the game.

 Dewey's Zach Renfroe and Nowata's Talon Thompson both scored 23 points. Other Dewey scorers included Austin Eastman with 16 points; Kooper Crawford and Gage Hawkins with 13 each, and Karson Johnson added six points. Ironmen scorers included Clint Harrington with nine, and Adrian O'Dell and Ty Williams with seven apiece.

Next up, Nowata travels to Ketchum on Feb. 16. Dewey travels to Oologah on Friday. The Bulldoggers also host District Class 3A Area IV playoffs on Feb. 20, taking on Sequoyah (Claremore).

Boys: Nowata 66, Caney Valley 52

Clint Harrington and Talon Thompson blazed the nets with 27 and 20 points, respectively, propelling Nowata to a 66-52 home win over Caney Valley last Friday. Nowata jumped out to a 35-20 lead at halftime and held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Trojans, who scored 21 points in the quarter.

Caney Valley (15-6) had Zac Longan with 16 points, Logan Thompson with 12, CJ Breese with 10, Speck Gann with eight and Preston Gipson with six.

Caney Valley travels to Oklahoma Union on Friday and Morris on Feb. 17

Girls: Caney Valley 45, Nowata 23

Caney Valley defeated Nowata 45-23 last Friday, led by Harper Watts and Presley Smith's 11 points each. The Lady Trojans' strong first half, with 19 points, set the tone for the game, while their defense held Nowata to just two points in the half. Khloe Crawford added nine points, Adesta Henry scored six, and Jayce Tant contributed a trey 

Nowata's Kaylee Bashford led the team with nine points, followed by Lyrique Walker with eight. An Ironmen third-quarter surge of 14 points wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.

Girls: Caney Valley 45, Chelsea 33

The Lady Trojans are now 20-2 after beating Chelsea 45-33 on the road Tuesday. Caney Valley netted 29 points in the first half but found scoring a little more difficult in the second half, putting up only 13.  In their first meeting on Jan. 30, Caney Valley won at home, 54-26. 

"We played pretty well the first half," head coach Deric Longan said. "We battled through a second-half scoring slump to hold on to the win."

Harper Watts led in Lady Trojan scoring with 18 points. Other scorers were Presley Smith (9), Abby Daigle (5), Adesta Henry (5), and Khloe Crawford (4).

Next up, Caney Valley travels to Oklahoma Union on Friday and Morris on Feb. 17.

Girls: Dewey 55, Nowata 19

The Lady Bulldoggers (16-7) jumped out early at halftime, leading 31-5, and defeated Nowata 55-19 on the road on Tuesday. 

Dewey's Kaci Swan led all scorers with 11. Other Dewey scorers were: Cassie Snead with 10, followed by Addrianna Hicks with eight. Matney Epperson and Bailey Ostrosky had six apiece, and Jaelynn Smith and CJ Jones added five each. 

Nowata scorers were Lyrique Walker (9), Kaylee Bashford (7), and Hailey Gillman (3).

Girls: Dewey 39, Chelsea 31

Last Friday, Dewey defeated Chelsea 39-31 during senior night, where nine Lady Bulldoggers were honored.

"It was a bittersweet night," said head coach Michael Sanders. "Happy for the victory and sad to be losing nine awesome seniors."

Mattney Epperson led the Lady Bulldoggers in scoring with 10, followed by Cassie Snead with eight, and Chanley Herren with six.

Boys: WCS 63, Regent Prep 48

The Mustangs (18-5) defeated Regent Prep 63-48 last Friday on senior night. Leading by four, WCS went into halftime up 29-25. The Mustangs began to pull away in the second half of the game with some crucial stops to get a comfortable lead.

“I thought we did a pretty good job on defense,” said head coach Stephen Cooks. “I thought the guys did a much better job in playing the second half with force and controlling the ball.”

Owen Hay led in scoring with 20 points, followed by Hank Seimers with 19. Senior Timothy Wisdom netted 12; Draevyn Carter, six; Caleb Osborn, four; and Carter Kennard, two.

The Mustangs are riding a five-game winning streak, defeating Riverfield in OT 64-58 on Feb. 3 and Mingo Valley, 37-32, on Feb. 6.

WCS begins Class B districts at Prue on Friday at 7:30 p.m. They play the winner of the Kremlin-Hillsdale/Prue.

Girls: Regent Prep 49, WCS 32

The Lady Mustangs kept the game close early on, going into halftime down by four, 22-18. However, Regent pulled away in the second half to win 49-32 last Friday during WCS’s senior night. Before the loss, Coach Kendall Huntington’s Lady Mustangs defeated Riverfield 52-28 and Mingo Valley 55-30.

During last Friday’s game, Kori White led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points, followed by Elianna Manning, who added six. Karson White had three, while Whitlie Tennnison, Miranada Hadrava, and Lilly Miller had two each. Emily Christenson added a free-throw.

WCS begins Class B districts at Prue on Friday at 6 p.m. They play the winner of the Kremlin-Hillsdale/Prue.

Boys: South Coffeyville

The Class B Lions begin playoffs Thursday at Crossover Prep. They take on Welch at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. They dropped their final two regular-season games to Afton and Fairland.

Girls: South Coffeyville

The Lady Lions (10-13) take on Welch at Crossover Prep Thursday at 6 p.m. They fell to Afton and Fairland in their final two regular-season games.

Girls: Barnsdall 60, Foyil 28

The Lady Panthers (15-10), who begin Class A playoffs Saturday, defeated Foyil 60-28 on the road on Monday. Barnsdall, coached by Gary Askew, is on a six-game winning streak. They are at Waukomis Saturday at 6 p.m. for Class A district playoffs.

Boys: Foyil 37, Barnsdall 36

The Panthers lost by just one point on Monday, falling 37-36 to Foyil on the road.

Barnsdall (14-11), coached by Wade Corder, begins Class A district playoffs at Waukomis Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls: Oklahoma Union

The Lady Cougars defeated Quapaw 61-37 at home last Friday. They dropped a road game to Adair and fell to Commerce at home earlier this week. Next up, OKU hosts Caney Valley on Friday and closes out the regular season at Wyandotte Feb. 16.

Boys: Oklahoma Union

After the Cougars thrilling OT win over Nowata on Feb. 3, they followed up with a 65-58 home win over Quapaw last Friday. Earlier this week, they fell to Adair on the road and to Commerce at home. Next up, OKU hosts Caney Valley on Friday and closes out the regular season at Wyandotte Feb. 16.
