It is tournament time for area schools, with two popular tourneys taking place in Nowata and Washington counties starting Monday.
The 2025 Copan Shootout will start Monday with the Hornets taking on Prue at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Lady Hornets vs. South Coffeyville at 7 p.m. Other local teams include Barnsdall, Caney Valley, Dewey JV, South Coffeyville, and Wesleyan Christian School on the boys' side, and Barnsdall, Caney Valley, WCS, and South Coffeyville on the girls' side.
Nowata will host the 2025 Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament, also starting Monday. The Oklahoma Union girls meet Oologah at 7 p.m., Monday, followed by the Cougars vs. Fairland at 8:30 p.m. Nowata's girls and boys teams take on Mannford on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Games for both tournaments will be played each day except for Wednesday, and championships are set for Saturday.
Dewey travels to the Adair Tournament on Wednesday to face Gravette. The Lady Bulldoggers will play at 4 p.m., followed by the Bulldoggers at 5:30 p.m. The tournament will be played Wednesday and Thursday, with championships set for Saturday.
The Class 2A Pawhuska Huskies (1-2) played in the Cleveland tournament last week, defeating Sperry 64-31 and losing to Pryor 45-39. The Huskies are coached by Jason Snodgrass.
Under new head coach David Lampton, the Lady Huskies (2-1) won two games against 4A teams at the Cleveland tourney. They kept Tulsa Central to just five points, with a 50-5 win, and also defeated Skiatook 47-45. They lost to Class 3A Metro Christian 66-39.
Brackets to the upcoming tournaments are below:
