Oklahoma Wesleyan University baseball begins its postseason hunt Wednesday in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as a #1 seed. Weather permitting, OKWU plays Avila University (Mo.) on Wednesday at Joe Beck Stadium in Joplin, Mo. 

The Eagles (43-7, 30-6) are coming off of a 2-1 home series with Ottawa University (Kan.) over the weekend at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium. 

Bats blazed for both teams in the final game, with the Eagles taking an 18-16 win in eight innings.

Ottawa struck first in the third inning, scoring five runs. OKWU answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles trailed 7-2 after five innings but scored 13 runs in the sixth and seventh. Ottawa would answer with nine runs in the top of the eighth inning, taking a 16-15 lead.

OKWU would score three in the bottom of the eighth to close out the game.

Several Eagles had RBIs, led by Brenden Poindexter with six. Conner Hickey had four, Javier Marcial and Braydon Caldwell two each, and Victor Sanchez, Luis Antigua and JT Maloney one each.

Alan Covrrubias earned the win for the Eagles. Other Eagle pitchers seeing action were Jacob Morgan, Carson Frazier, Matthew Weidkamp, Aden Brothers and Braelen Pippin.

OKWU 4, Ottawa 3: The game was knotted 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Hickey sent one over the fence. Ravaughn Morgan led with three hits and one RBI. Evan Foor got the win, pitching all nine innings.

Ottawa 5, OKWU 4: Victor Sanchez led off the game with a home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles scored again in the third to make it 2-0, but Ottawa scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Eagles are coached by Kirk Kelley.
