OKWU LADY EAGLE SPIKERS SPURT TO 3-0 RECORD TO OPEN SEASON; SOCCER SEASON UNDERWAY

Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s volleyball team is considered one of the elite in the nation.
They justified that reputation with a sweep at last weekend’s Sioux City Tournament to open the season.
Following are summaries of weekend wins for OKWU, which is coached by Tracie Gillette.
OKWU 3, VALLEY CITY STATE (N.D.), 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. OKWU had to rally from a first set loss.
Returning All-American Evelyn Rohrberg punished the ball with an eye-raising 28 kills — on an attack percentage of .333. She also served two aces.
Fourth-year setter Sydney Collins — tagged with the reputation as one of the top playmakers in the nation — handed out an amazing 56 assists and also produced 11 digs.
Maria Luisa Caycedo, Maia Rubio and Jordan Isbell contributed 19, 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
Making her Lady Eagle debut, Maria Andrea Santa Cruz Cossich slammed 13 kills, followed by Rubio with 12 and Tijana Stojiljkovic with 10. Anuhea Aukai added three blocks.
OKWU 3, ROCKY MOUNTAIN (Mont.) 1, 25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20: Rocky Mountain proved to be a stubborn out in the final two sets but the Lady Eagles had already revved up the momentum.
Rohrberg, Stojiljkovic and Emma Stubbs hammered 15, 10 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead OKWU’s blistering 58 kill attack.
Collins amassed 45 assists and 10 digs.
Caycedo threw her body all over the place to record 22 kills, followed by Rubio with 11 and Valeria Perez with 10.
Anneliese Schonauer contributed two service aces.
OKWU 3, MORNINGSIDE 0, 25-15, 25-16, 27-25: Rohrberg put on another roaring performance — 25 kills on only 41 attacks (an attack percentage of .585).
Collins came up with another double-double (35 assists, 11 digs).]
Caycedo notched 22 digs for the second-straight match, followed by Rubio with 13.

COMING UP
OKWU’s women’s soccer team opened the campaign Monday on the road against Central Methodist (played in Jenks). The Lady Eagles Will be back on the road Saturday to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College.
OKWU’s home opener is set for September 3 at 6 p.m. against MidAmerica Nazarene University.
The Eagle men’s soccer team opened up on Monday by hosting John Brown (Ark.) University.
On Saturday, the OKWU men will be home again for a 1 p.m. showdown against Baker (Kan.). The Eagles won’t be home again until September 17, when Evangel (Mo.) comes to town.
