OPENING ROUND: BARTLESVILLE 6, PUTNAM CITY NORTH 0 — One down, one giant stride toward state.
Bolstered by Allison Rosson’s two-hit shutout masterpiece, the Lady Bruins moved closer to qualifying for state for the first time since 2010.
With Madie Nachbor handling catching duties, Rosson walked only one batter and whiffed 11 at the Lady Bruin complex.
Nachbor also swung a powerful bat, ripping two singles and driving in three runs. Jazmyne Campbell, Lola Redington and Kenzie Denny each drove in one run and Maddie Czaja contributed a double and a sacrifice hit. Lydia Daniels also delivered a sacrifice.
SEMIFINALS: BARTLESVILLE 7, ENID 6 — Talk about your marathon day.
The game preceding this one lasted almost 12 full innings! That meant the Lady Bruins’ start time was over two hours late from the scheduled start.
Wouldn’t you know it, the Bruin-Enid game also turned out to be a wild, lengthy affair.
The Bruin coaches, players and many of the parents/volunteers spent about 12 hours at the ballpark.
Enid — which had beaten Bartlesville in the regular season — rocketed to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. The Lady Bruins began to chip away starting in the fourth inning.
Bartlesville staged a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
Kelsie Yales pitched the distance and recorded a gritty win despite giving up 11 hits. She didn’t walk any, allowed only two earned runs and struck out eight batters. Nachbor was her receiver.
On the offensive side, Savannah Alden went all the way — a homer, double and three RBI.
Denny added a single and two RBI, including a sacrifice fly. Josie Childers drove in another run.
Nachbor contributed two singles. Seven different Lady Bruins scored one run apiece.
For Enid, C. Mark ripped three singles while Robinson and Pasby plated two runs apiece.
Combrink and Rader split pitching duties for Enid.
