BARNSDALL
From whatever cloud he’s looking down from, Joe Gilbert has to be smiling about the potential of the Barnsdall High School softball team.
The Lady Panthers are still putting it together during this early season phase but they appear to have the talent and experience to make a strong run.
Pitcher Peighton Johnson is part of the steely senior corps and a four-year starter.
“She has a big heart,” said Barnsdall head coach Ryan Gott. “She works hard and she’s very intense. She does whatever it takes to win.”
Utility infielder Sophia Galligher is another impact senior with multiple years as a starter to her credit.
“She’s contributed a lot,” said Gott. “She brings big energy and does a lot for the team.”
River Gosvener transferred in the middle of last year “and has really been a catalyst for us,” Gott said. “She hits in the two-hole. She can hit the ball really well and puts a lot of pressure on the defense. She’s very smart as well.”
Senior starting outfielder Bryanna Smith “is definitely a big cheerleader. She’s loud and has a lot of energy. … She had a big hit for us against Pawnee.”
Gott also praised the contribution of Jaydn McCauley.
Balancing the senior savvy are some talented young players, Gott noted.
