BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Following is a roundup of area high school softball action from last weekend.

BARTLESVILLE

Make it eight wins in a row for the Bartlesville High School softball team.

Bolstered by Kelsie Yales' cannon-like pitching, the Lady Bruins zapped Sapulpa, 11-0, on Friday to improve to 23-10 and wrap up their district record at 8-4 — good enough to clinch the No. 2 seed.

With Madie Nachbor as her catcher, Yales mowed down Sapulpa’s offense like dry grass. Yales struck out 13 batters — an average of more than two per inning — and allowed just one walk.

Bartlesville’s offense, meanwhile, ripped the ball up-and-down the lineup, led by five-hole hitter Lola Redington with a homer, two singles and three RBI.

Two-hole banger Maddie Czaja delivered a hit and three RBI, while clean-up slugger Jazmyne Campbell doubled and plated two runs.

Nachbor notched two singles in the seven hole and three-holer Savannah Alden added an RBI. Kenzie Denny and Lydia Daniels both scored two runs in the eight-hole and nine-pole positions, respectively, and courtesy runner Paisley Bryant also crossed home plate twice.

The Lady Bruins are coached by Kyle Minton. He has guided the program to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in 15 years.

AREA ROUNDUP

DEWEY: The Lady Doggers (26-7) have two regular season games remaining before plunging into the Class 3A playoffs later this week. On Monday, Dewey — which is coached by Riley Allen — journeys to Fairland for a 5 p.m. showdown.

Twenty-four hours later, Dewey will make the short hop to Bartlesville to take on the Lady Bruins in a highly-anticipated rivalry collison. The first pitch is due at 5 a.m. Both teams are in the late stage of ultra-successful seasons.

PAWHUSKA: Wow! The Lady Huskies are headed to the Class 2A state tournament!

Pawhuska (19-8) blitzed through its regional — which it hosted —by beating Quapaw, 21-4, and Stroud twice, 13-7 and 19-2.

The Lady Huskies have thundered to a 12-1 record since the end of August.

COPAN and SOUTH COFFEYVILLE: South Coffeyville proved to be just a little better during their Class B district playoff tournament. The Lady Lions swept Copan, 9-1 and 6-2, to advance to the regional. This was the first time in school history that South Coffeyville hosted softball districts.

Copan — led by first-year head coach Ashley McCause — finished at 5-13. A six-game losing streak to end the season distorted what was otherwise a strong rebuilding year for Copan.

BARNSDALL: The Lady Panthers — who are coached by Ryan Gott — saw their valiant season reach the end of the line with a Class A district playoff loss Friday to Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, 6-2.\

Thanks to a five-game winning blitz in mid-to-latter September Barnsdall wrapped up with a winning record (12-11). Following a 5-8 start, the Lady Panthers surged to a 7-3 mark in their final 10 games.

NOWATA: A season of challenge ended on a couple of promising notes for the Lady Ironmen (4-20), who were coached by Derrick Ott.

In their final regular season game, on Sept. 19, they edged a very strong Caney Valley, 8-7.

In last weekend’s Class 2A regional, they fell to Preston, 10-0, but then offered a valiant battle in an 8-4 season-ending defeat against Ketchum.

OKLAHOMA UNION: The Lady Cougars pulled up at the finish line at 6-17, after suffering a sweep in the Class 2A regionals.

Oktaha downed Oklahoma Union, 13-0, and Chelsea then dealt the season-ending blow, 17-0.

Ashlyn Kite coached the rebuilding Lady Cougars.

CANEY VALLEY: The Lady Trojans are finished for the season. We’ll have an update at a later date.

Nowata High School’s Ava Clarett (20) makes a catch during an earlier season game.
