BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
The Bartlesville Lady Bruins fastpitch softball team put together a dominant opening day at the Class 6A regional tournament Wednesday, securing a pair of decisive victories to advance to Thursday's noon championship game at home.
Game 1: Bartlesville 13, Lawton Eisenhower 3
The Lady Bruins opened the tournament by triggering the run rule against Eisenhower. Bartlesville put together a patient and disciplined offensive showcase, drawing 12 walks and going 12-for-26 at the plate with 10 RBIs.
Eisenhower struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but Bartlesville ace Jazmayne Campbell quickly shut them down for the remainder of the contest. Campbell pitched all six innings, scattering five hits and allowing three runs while striking out eight.
The Lady Bruins began their comeback in the second inning, putting one run on the board to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The bats truly came alive in the third. Lead-off hitter Londyn Bond launched a solo home run over the center-field wall to spark the rally. Bond also added a triple later in the contest. Erin Bridendolph followed Bond's homer with the first of her two triples on the day, driving a ball to right field and scoring on a passed ball to tie the game 3-3. Bartlesville drove in two more runs in the frame to cap a four-run inning and take a 5-3 lead.
Bridendolph and Campbell both added doubles to the extra-base hit barrage, while Bridendolph and Lydia Daniels each notched a stolen base to keep pressure on the Eisenhower defense.
The Lady Bruins extended their lead with three runs in the fourth inning before an explosive five-run sixth inning ended the game early.
Game 2: Bartlesville 7, Edmond Memorial 0
In the second contest of the day, pitcher Alison Rosson took control in the circle. Rosson tossed a complete-game shutout to lift Bartlesville to a 7-0 victory over Edmond Memorial. She allowed no runs and struck out three in a commanding performance.
The Bruins' offense backed Rosson by methodically scoring runs in every inning except the fourth, churning out 11 hits.
Bond turned in a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Bridendolph remained red-hot as well, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Daniels and Lola Redington also drove in runs to fuel the shutout victory.
Championship Preview: Lady Bruins Await Elimination Winner
Having swept opening day, the undefeated Lady Bruins (26-11) sit in the driver's seat heading into Thursday’s noon regional championship game. They will face the survivor of the morning elimination match between Sapulpa (22-12) and Edmond Memorial (13-21). Whichever squad advances to the final must defeat Bartlesville twice to claim the title. A single victory by the Lady Bruins secures the regional championship and a state tournament berth. If Bartlesville drops the noon contest, an if-necessary game will follow immediately to determine the champion.
