The Bartlesville High School football team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a decisive 36-22 home victory over Collinsville last Friday.
The Bruins (2-1) looked to rebound after falling on the road to the Claremore Zebras, 35-32, on Sept. 4.
Bartlesville travels to Enid (1-2) on Friday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup. District play for the Bruins opens at home Oct. 9 against Sand Springs (1-2).
Against Collinsville, the Bruins found themselves locked in a 16-16 tie at halftime. Bartlesville blew the game open in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 16-6 in the third quarter before adding eight points in the fourth. Meanwhile, the Bruins' defense completely shut down the Collinsville offense in the final period.
Junior quarterback Michael Kent, who has been the Bruins' starter since the middle of his freshman year, led the charge by throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 81 yards. On the season, Kent is averaging 255 passing yards and 85 rushing yards per game.
Several targets contributed to the aerial attack. EJ Belisle caught five passes for 59 yards and a touchdown, Eman George hauled in a receiving score, and Price Lusk added 49 receiving yards. Lusk is currently averaging 108.7 yards per game this season.
Wyatt Mathis balanced the offense with 56 rushing yards and 34 receiving yards, while Logan Goins chipped in 28 yards on the ground and 15 through the air.
Defensively, the Bruins were anchored by double-digit tackling performances. Mathis and Kyler Godinez each recorded 11 tackles, with Godinez adding a sack. Sonji Ketiku logged 10 tackles and a sack.
Adrian Jones paced the pass rush with two sacks, while Davin Carter had six tackles, including two sacks. Boden Roberts added four tackles and a sack, bringing his season average to 1.7 sacks per game. Drake Ford, who is averaging eight tackles per game this season, also contributed to the defensive effort.
