BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
Two golds, a silver — and a state academic championship — capped another fantastic season for the Bartlesville High School swimming program.
During the Class 6A finals, the Lady Bruins surged in the pool to the girls’ state runner-up trophy.
But when it came to the classroom, the Lady Bruins were simply the best. They fashioned a team grade-point average of 3.97 to earn distinction as the top academic Class 6A girls swim team in Oklahoma.
In the pool, the Lady Bruins also formed a formidable force. They were led by junior Anna Young, who burst to a state championship (200 freestyle), a state silver (100 butterfly) and two bronze medals (200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay).
Senior Ashlynn Taylor grabbed Bartlesville’s other girls’ state title (100 breaststroke) to go with three bronze baubles (100 butterfly, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay).
On the boys side, Bartlesville powered to fourth place, led by junior Parker Shoesmith with an outstanding showing, including two silver medals — 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle.
Bartlesville also recorded seven other top-five finishes in the boys’ battles.

GIRLS
Bartlesville qualified nine girls for state competition.
In addition to a total of two state titles, a state runner-up spot and five bronze medals between Young and Taylor, Bartlesville brought home several other third-place showings.
The bronze medal-winning 200 medley relay foursome consisted of freshman Nora Craig, sophomore Daisy Droege, Taylor and senior Casey “Anna” Wells.
The third-place 400 freestyle quartet featured Craig, Droege, freshman Karis Shamhart and Young.
The team’s 200 freestyle relay team also finished third, manned by Shamhart, Taylor, Wells and Young.
Craig also earned a fifth-place medal in the 100 backstroke.
Rounding out the state qualifiers were freshman Addie Kuntz, senior Macie Stapleton and junior Sophia Williams.
Ragavarsha Karuppan Chetty contributed to the academic state title.

BOYS
Bartlesville qualified eight boys for state — Shoesmith, freshman Miles Brown, junior Kevin Contreras, sophomore Grayson Ellis, Senior Travis Lief, sophomore Anthony Mann, junior Aysen Offutt and sophomore Blace Williams.
For those paying close attention, the Bruins will lose only one of those swimmers (Lief) to graduation, which bodes well for a large state-tested nucleus returning next season.
Lief finished his prep career with two fourth-place state medals (500 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay).
Other Bruins on the 400 freestyle relay team included Ellis, Mann and Shoesmith.
Mann also earned an individual fourth-place medal (100 freestyle).
