With the state swimming meet a little more than two months away the Bartlesville High School girls team made a strong statement Tuesday.
Competing on the road for the first time this season, the Lady Bruins lost by just 24 points to defending Class 6A champion Jenks, 97-73, at the Tulsa Union tri-meet.
Bartlesville crushed host Tulsa Union, 130-33, and Jenks zapped Tulsa Union, 145-23, in the other girls’ results.
In the boys’ competition, Bartlesville downed Tulsa Union, 96-58, Jenks beat Bartlesville, 114-55, and Jenks rolled past Tulsa Union, 148-21.
Bartlesville won the championship in six of the 11 girls’ events and three of the 11 boys’ competitions.

Following is a closer look at Bartlesville’s highlights.

LADY BRUINS
Freshman Nora Craig captured two individual championships (200m individual medley and 100m backstroke) and was part of the first-place 200m medley relay team to spearhead Bartlesville’s effort.
Ashlynn Taylor won first place in the 100m breaststroke and was part of the 200m relay team that won two titles.
Capturing one title each were: Anna Young (200m freestyle), Karis Shamhart (400m freestyle), Taylen Pratt (200m medley relay) and Daisy Droege (200m medley relay).
Bartlesville made its strongest showing in the girls’ competition by winning three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley (Craig, 1st; Anna Wells, 3rd; Droege, 4th).
Bartlesville also swept the top two spots in the girls’ 400m freestyle (Shamhart, 1st; Alexis Taylor, 2nd).
The Lady Bruins also finished second in the girls’ 400m freestyle relay (Young, Craig, Shamhart, Droege).

BRUINS
Parker Shoesmith won two boys’ events (200m individual medley, 400m freestyle) to help elevate Bartlesville past Tulsa Union.
Grayson Ellis seized Bartlesville’s other title (100m freestyle).
Bartlesville also finished second in both the boys 200m freestyle relay (Anthony Mann, Ellis, Shoesmith, Blace Williams) and in the boys’ 400m freestyle relay (Mann, Ellis, Travis Lief, Shoesmith).
Ellis and Mann tied for second in the boys’ 200m freestyle.
Bartlesville also nailed down three of the top four spots in the boys’ 400m freestyle (Shoesmith, 1st; Lief, 2nd; and Williams, 4th).
