BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Bartlesville High School senior Madie Nachbor has spent over a decade preparing for moments like the one arriving this Thursday, making her the latest featured standout in Bartlesville Area Sports Report's Area Game Changer series.

The twice-weekly showcase highlights dynamic competitors across 12 area schools who transform their teams through leadership, effort, and heart.

Fresh off capturing a Class 6A regional championship, Nachbor and the Bartlesville Lady Bruins are headed to the state fast pitch softball tournament for the third straight year. For the senior catcher who has been in the program since seventh grade, the postseason run culminates a journey that began when she first picked up a softball at 5 years old.

"Don't take what you have for granted," Nachbor said. "Bad practices and hard days all pay off. Live in the moment while it's here and get involved as much as possible."

That perspective is built on a legacy of breaking barriers. While the current tournament run is thrilling, Nachbor's favorite memory dates back to her sophomore season during a crucial regional game on the road.

"We didn't host that year, but we were able to show up and get the job done," Nachbor said. "It felt great to know we were the first team in over a decade to make the fastpitch state tournament."

As the primary catcher for the Lady Bruins, Nachbor bears the responsibility of serving as the team's field general. While she does not play other sports outside of slowpitch softball, the intense focus required behind the plate has shaped her character both on and off the diamond.

"While commanding the field is a big responsibility and can be stressful at times, what I love most about it is that it has taught me to pay attention to small details at all times and has helped me grow in leadership," Nachbor said.

When she steps out of the catcher's box and into the batter's box, that high-stress environment gives way to a simplified, aggressive approach.

"I have a positive mindset and my main priority is to put a ball in play," Nachbor said.

To maintain that standard, Nachbor draws inspiration from elite talent at the next level. She models her work ethic after one of college softball's premier players.

"One of my favorite athletes is Reese Atwood," Nachbor said. "I want to work hard and be as dedicated as her."

Nachbor's curiosity about people shines in the classroom, too. Taking psychology during her junior year opened her eyes to a deeper level of emotional intelligence and instantly hooked her interest.

"I think it helped me understand the way others think as well as helped me better understand my emotions," Nachbor said.

That mental maturity keeps the team loose during high-stakes road trips. Whether the Lady Bruins are participating in their annual Halloween dress-up days or playing a favorite team game called "commander" before taking the field, the bond shared in the dugout remains a cornerstone of her high school career.

Once her final season with the Lady Bruins concludes, Nachbor will take those leadership skills to the collegiate level. She has committed to continuing both her academic and athletic career at Allen Community College.

But first, Nachbor and the Lady Bruins have business to attend to on Thursday.
