BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Two stories emerged from last month's Guns vs. Hoses softball game at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium in downtown Bartlesville. The area firefighters team bested the law 25-11. More importantly, the event raised over $900 for Bartlesville Special Olympics.

Special Olympic athletes Tucker Smith and Kaitlynn Switzer started the game with the first at-bats and both scored home runs. "Seeing Tucker and Kaitlynn swing the bat, hit the ball and run was my favorite part," said Officer Sierra Compton, the event organizer with the Bartlesville Police Department.

Compton's nephew is a Special Olympics athlete, and she understands the impact of the organization. "He is always so proud of what he achieves." Smith and Switzer recently competed in the Oklahoma Special Olympic games, with Smith participating in softball throw, cornhole and bowling, and Switzer in softball throw and soccer.

Compton and Bartlesville firefighter Ryan Witter came up with the idea for the benefit game. "The Special Olympics community provides a safe environment, a sense of family, achievement, skills, and friendship," Compton said. She was pleased with the turnout of the benefit softball game and the family-oriented atmosphere

Kyle Martin of Top Notch BBQ and Top Notch Entertainment provided game announcing and food.

The following is a list of players provided by the announcer, though two participants' names were not fully listed.

Hoses: Barry Campbell, Adam Butterfield, HC Call, Daniel Barham, Blake Chew, Eric Blevins, Justin Butterfield, Colby Williams, Mark Curtis, Chance Nissan, Cody Nissan and Witter.

Guns: Dalton Martin, Aden Parrish, Andrew Bailey, Mark Dressler, Michael Montgomery, Melissa Montgomery, Logan Aldridge, Logan Horsman, Britton Monday and Braden Ford.
