BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

No matter which Sam took the field, the Bartlesville Bruins were bound to make an impact.

Bartlesville seniors Sam Hill and Sam Marcella wrapped up their high school baseball careers at the annual Tulsa Area Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Senior Series at ONEOK Field on June 14.

Playing for the Route 66 Cruisers, the duo helped anchor a 9-3 victory over the Mother Roaders. Hill's selection to the showcase capped an elite postseason run, as he was also named an Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association Class 6A All-Star player.

“It was well deserved,” Bartlesville head coach Cody Price said. “Both had great years for us and obviously were a huge part of our success.”

That success included a 20-win season, marking the fifth time the Bruins reached that milestone under Price's leadership. Several of the team's seniors are set to advance to the collegiate level next season. Hill signed with Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas, while Marcella will stay local to play for Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

During the TABCA showcase, Hill played in left and center field, recording a hit and drawing a hit-by-pitch. Marcella split time at shortstop and on the mound, hitting a double at the plate and pitching a scoreless inning for the Cruisers.

“Both players were very deserving of the honor,” Price said. "It is a really cool experience for them to play at that stadium and on that field, and both represented us really well.”

The Cruisers roster featured players from Kansas (Okla.), Sapulpa, Regent Prep, Wagoner, Oologah, Kellyville, Bixby, Catoosa, Owasso, Nathan Hale and Bartlesville. The Mother Roaders were represented by seniors from Tahlequah, Sperry, Chouteau, Metro Christian, Locust Grove, Broken Arrow, Bishop Kelley, Booker T. Washington, Edison and Kiefer.
