The Dewey Bulldoggers cruised through their regionals last week, shutting out Westville 17-0 and Beggs 5-0 last Thursday to launch them into Friday’s championship game against Beggs in front of a hometown crowd. By claiming the regional title, Dewey advances to the Area tournament, leaving them just one series victory away from the state tournament.
As of Monday, the Bulldoggers were ranked No. 10 in Class 3A and will travel to face No. 7 Stigler in a best-of-three series. The matchup begins at Stigler with a doubleheader on Thursday, featuring games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be played Friday at 1:00 p.m.
The Dewey-Stigler series is one of eight high-stakes Area matchups across the state this weekend, joined by other top-tier pairings including No. 1 Marlow vs. No. 16 Lindsay and No. 2 Washington vs. No. 15 Victory Christian.

Following is a roundup of the Dewey regional held last week:
Championship: Dewey 15, Beggs 9 (8 Innings)
It took eight innings, but the Bulldoggers bested Beggs 15-9 for the championship title. Layne Gastel started on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings with nine hits, six runs, four earned runs, and nine strikeouts. Easton Davis earned the win in relief, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing just one hit and three runs with six strikeouts.
The Bulldoggers broke the game open with a seven-run explosion in the top of the eighth inning. Dewey’s defense and the pitching of Davis then kept Beggs to just one run in the final frame to secure the victory.
Jay Murguia led the offense, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Parker Garrison went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while Davis helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 with a run and four RBIs. Tysen Williams also contributed a hit and two RBIs.
As a team, Dewey totaled 35 at-bats with 15 runs, 12 hits, and 13 RBIs, while Beggs finished with 33 at-bats, nine runs, 10 hits, and eight RBIs.
“I am very proud of the way our boys never gave up even though we didn’t play our best during the regional tournament,” said coach Riley Allen. “They have found a way to win all year and that resilience showed today. If we can clean a few things up moving forward, we have a good shot at making a run at state.”

Dewey 5, Beggs 0
Lathe Griggs pitched 6.1 innings with 13 strikeouts and five hits to lead the Doggers to a 5-0 shutout of Beggs last Thursday. Dewey jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added runs in the fourth and fifth. Garrison had a triple and an RBI, while Jackson Fox and Davis each recorded a hit and an RBI. Davis and Garrison also added a stolen base each.

In the regional opener, Dewey scored eight runs in the first inning and nine more over the next two frames to end the game in the fifth. Garrison was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Murgia was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Mason Snellgrove finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Karson Johnson earned the win, striking out seven in a hitless start, while Williams added 2.1 innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts.
Following the regional championship, Dewey seniors and their parents were honored during Senior Night.
The Dewey Bulldoggers defeated Beggs for the Class 3A regional tournament last weekend, held in Dewey.
