BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
The postseason road reached its end for both Barnsdall and Copan last week as regional tournament play concluded the seasons for both area squads.
The Copan Hornets reached the Class 2A regional championship game last Friday, falling 19-7 to Oklahoma Bible Academy at Navajo.
The loss concluded a standout season under coach Daniel Wren, which saw the Hornets peak at No. 14 in Class 2A with a 16-10 record. The postseason run followed a strong finish to the regular season, including a seven-game winning streak that was only snapped by No. 2 Ketchum just before the regional tournament.
Despite the early exit, Wren praised the impact of his veteran leaders, specifically highlighting the versatility of his seniors.
“Shooter Brewington and Josh Thomas showed great leadership throughout the season,” Wren said. “Both had big innings on the mound, alternated at shortstop and had big hits throughout the season.”
Wren noted that the team’s success relied on contributors across all grade levels. Freshman Slayton Brewington emerged as a defensive asset at first base while proving to be a difficult presence for opposing pitchers to navigate.
“He led the team in hit-by-pitches and had the fewest strikeouts on the team,” Wren said. “He was always a tough out.”
Behind the plate, catcher Zane Agnew was a consistent force who "always found a way on base," said Wren. Junior Zane Striklin anchored the offense, leading the squad in batting average, on-base percentage, and total hits. Meanwhile, Xavier Alston provided a late-season surge; after struggling early at the plate, Alston dominated the second half of the year, launching two home runs—one of which came during the regional tournament.
Following are the game summaries of the regional tournament:

The Hornets opened regionals against Oklahoma Bible, who won 7-4 last Wednesday. Copan led 4-3 after five innings, but the Trojans would plate four runs in the sixth inning. The loss pushed the Hornets into the elimination bracket, meaning they would have to win out to keep their season alive.

After Slayton Brewington was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Edan Thompson grounded a two-run single to left. BARNSDALL
The No. 17-ranked Barnsdall Panthers (17-5-1) saw their season close last week during the Class A Regional tournament in Okarche. Despite being crowned Class A-1 District Champions on April 23, the Panthers were unable to overcome No. 16 Thomas-Fay-Custer, falling 7-1 and 15-2 to the Terriers.
Thomas-Fay-Custer 7, Barnsdall 1
The Terriers took the opening game last Wednesday, 7-1. Barnsdall’s lone run came in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Tripp Barbee singled on a line drive to left field, followed by an Andrew Cole RBI double on a hard grounder to plate Barbee.
Barnsdall 6, Afton 4
In their second game of the day, Barnsdall used a late-inning surge to stay alive in the tournament.
The Panthers erupted for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead. While Afton plated one run in the bottom of the frame, Barnsdall held on for the 6-4 victory.
Gavin Wood led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Lincoln Gott and Barbee each recorded an RBI, while Derek Robbins went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Cole also added a hit and a run. On the mound, Gott provided 4.2 innings of strong relief, striking out eight and allowing just two hits. Cole started the contest, striking out six over 2.1 innings.
Thomas-Fay-Custer 15, Barnsdall 2
Barnsdall struck first in the rematch with a run in the opening frame. Wood doubled and later scored on a passed ball to give the Panthers an early lead.
However, the Terriers took control from there, leading 5-1 heading into the sixth inning. Thomas-Fay-Custer broke the game open with a 10-run sixth, ending the contest early via the run rule.
Following the tournament, head coach Ryan Gott took to social media to praise seniors Cayden Adams, Cole, Gott, Kaydon Francis, Blaine Miller, and Talen Bond for their contributions to the program.
“Thank you men for working hard, contributing to whatever you were asked to do, and for being positive role models to our younger boys on the team,” Gott said.
The Barnsdall Panthers won the Class A championship on April 23. However, their season ended in regionals at Okarche last week.
