BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

Following are reports of volleyball action from Tuesday.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Energized by Emily Christensen’s high-voltage play, Wesleyan Christian School stunned visiting Oklahoma Union High School in girls’ volleyball action Tuesday, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-15).

Christensen also rose to full stature in last week’s win against Berryhill High School, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18)

“Emily did a really great job on the front row at the middle block,” said WCS Lady Mustang head coach Mariah Cooks. “She was reading the blocks a lot better. … All of us coaches have been really impressed with her.”

Cooks also singled out hitters Kori White and Miranda Hadrava for their prolific performance Tuesday.

“Miranda does a really great job,” Cooks said. “She says what needs to be said and she does what needs to be done.”

White distinguishes herself with her volleyball I.Q. and well-trained skills.

“She’s able to hit the line which is helping us out and broadening the court,” Cooks said.

Ashley Reich did a “phenomenal” job at setter, the coach added.

Team chemistry and determination are fueling the Lady Mustangs’ success.

“I think we did a really good job tonight of not giving up on plays,” she said. “I think one of the big things is that our attacking is getting stronger.”

Cooks credited her assistants for the team’s progress by working separately on hitting and blocking and added the team is growing in confidence and timing.

“I think they’re all doing a really good job of trusting each other and working together as a team,” Cooks summarized.

Next up, WCS boards the bus Thursday for a showdown in Tulsa at Metro Christian.

DEWEY

Dewey saw its 10-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Summit Christian.

Dewey head coach Hayley Harris referred to a couple of dominant talents by Summit Christian.

Even so, Dewey (12-2) stretched the match to five sets. Summit Christian won the fifth set, 15-8.

Harris praised the play up close of Camrin ‘C.J.” Jones and Callie Posch.

Rylan White and Kaylee Anton-Cole did a good job of pushing sets, Harris said.

She also praised the strong play of Nevaeh Straley.

"Camrin Jones was really strong on hitting,” Harris added. “She played well all-around tonight. Lacey Nichols produced a lot of saves that put us back into the game.”
