BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
If the Sapulpa meet is a reliable indication this could be a happy season for the Bartlesville High School varsity cross country teams.
During Saturday’s season opener, the Bartlesville Bruins romped to the team championship in the boys division at Sapulpa. The Lady Bruins finished as the runner-up in the girls’ standings.
Meanwhile, Caney Valley High School’s new girls cross country team made an explosive dust-rising debut last week.
Paced by peerless sophomore speedster Presley Smith, the Lady Trojans stormed to second place at the Preston meet.
Smith sped through the one-mile course in 6:51, edging out Oklahoma Union’s McKenna Goemer by three seconds for the championship.
Goemer led a swift pack of Lady Cougars that blitzed to the girls team championship.
Meanwhile in Claremore, the Wesleyan Christian School boys cross country team surged into its season, led by Jessie Blakemore, who finished 21st (19:34.8) in the 5K test.
Following is a team-by-team breakdown. The reports are all for varsity teams unless otherwise indicated.
