Popcorn, hot dogs, and summer baseball. The countdown is officially on for American Legion ball at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.
Following the May 2 tryouts at the Oklahoma Wesleyan University baseball practice field, which drew approximately 80 athletes from the surrounding area vying for a spot, the Doenges Toyota Indians roster is cemented. This year will also include a Braves team, though that roster has yet to be set.
“We were extremely pleased with the amount of athletes and the talent level was amazing,” said first-year head coach Tony Osborne. “We’re going to be well-rounded.”
Osborne said to expect to see a lot of speed, strength, and accuracy this season.
“Our pitching is excellent with great velocity and command. We’re hitting a lot of power; our catchers have excellent pop times and great arms,” Osborne said. “Defense is smooth as glass with a lot of speed in the outfield and a ton of range in the infield.”
